The finest cuisine at sea they say?! Our cruise expert Angela Carruthers went aboard Oceania’s Marina to find out for herself.
The cuisine offered aboard all Oceania’s fleet of six intimate ‘Country Club’ style ships is without doubt a huge highlight. With world-renowned Master Chef Jacques Pépin at the helm, the dining options are varied to say the least and more importantly, with the exception of two surcharged options, all included in the cruise fare.
Of course Angela didn’t have time to sample all the cuisine on her whistle stop ship tour but had a good snoop around to give you some top tips on what your stomach can expect once on board!
Marina has 10 different dining options. There’s a variety of distinctive open-seating restaurants and a handful of others where reservations must be made in advance, but with so much choice these can be made easily once on board as are rarely full.
La Reserve by Wine Spectator carriers a USD$95 surcharge to cover the wine pairing experience offered along-side its gourmet menu. It also hosts wine seminars and vintage tastings. Privée is a pre-bookable private dining experience for up to 10 guests that also carries a surcharge.
Oceania has the highest food costs in the industry and are the only cruise line to carry USDA Prime (the highest grade of beef produce in the USA) and features this alongside 28-day dry aged beef and whole Maine Lobster as specialities at Polo Grill.
Jacques restaurant is modelled after a Parisian bistro. Comfortable and eclectic, the ambiance is pure French, as is the cosmopolitan yet wonderfully embraceable cuisine.
Canyon Ranch SpaClub® is the award-winning health resort on-board featuring fitness and spa facilities and healing therapies. Its Canyon Ranch signature dishes are available in The Grand Dining Room and Terrace Café for those looking for a healthier dining option.
The tours programme also offers Culinary Discovery Tours where, at selected ports, you can accompany the instructor chefs to local markets to shop for fresh ingredients.
Book any Suite Class Accommodation (e.g. Penthouse Suite or above) and you’ll benefit from in-suite butler service which will include gourmet evening canapés delivered to your suite and course-by-course in-suite dining, served by your butler from a choice of speciality restaurant menus.
If all of that doesn’t whet your appetite for an Oceania cruise the relaxed ambiance of life on-board, modern comfortable ‘Ralph Lauren Home’ inspired staterooms and beautiful artistic public areas (there’s even some original Picasso drawings on display) surely will.
