Silversea Expeditions 10th Anniversary

Friday 27 July 2018

Over the last decade Silversea Expeditions has become the leading authority in luxury expedition cruising. In celebration of this landmark anniversary, Silversea has announced its inaugural crossing of the Northeast Passage. Few cruise ships have crossed this remote route above the Arctic Circle and Silver Explorer will become the most luxurious of them all in 2019.

Silversea Luxury Expedition Cruising

Setting sail from Alaska on 10th August 2019, the ice-class expedition ship will sail to Norway via the extreme coastlines of Asia and Europe, passing 5,019 nautical miles of spectacular scenery. History lovers will be fascinated by a visit to Murmansk, the last city to have been founded under the Russian Empire, and guests can immerse themselves in rare cultural experiences at isolated coastal villages such as Chukotka’s Uelen, which is home to the Chukchi and Yupik people.

Silversea ice-class expedition ships push north through the ice

Truly a once-in-a-lifetime voyage, the ambitious journey will include a day spent navigating as far North as possible, pushing towards the Ice Edge in search of seals, walruses and polar bears on the ice floes. The expedition will encompass Wrangel Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to walruses, polar bears and migratory birds; Champ Island, where mysterious, large stone spheres punctuate the ethereal landscape; the stunning basalt columns of Tikhaya Bay’s Rubini Rock; and the awe-inspiring fjords and glaciers found in the archipelago of Severnaya Zemlya.
