Sailing | Travel Bureau Gosforth

Sailing ships provide a truly unique way to cruise and harnesses the true spirit of adventure that travellers gone-by would have experienced on discovering new continents. Powered by wind (although these days most are also motored), you’ll glide into charming harbours or anchor off hidden coves with tranquil ease and intimate privacy.

There are many types of sailing holidays to choose from:

Magnificent three or five-mast ships; offer the ultimate sailing experience, all fully crewed with luxurious interiors, fine dining and superb on-board facilities. These larger sailing ships can take you out into open waters allowing you to explore a variety of countries on the same cruise.

Traditional gullet cruises; popular around coastal Turkey, Greece and Croatia, these can be booked either privately or by cabin on a shared cruise and offer a relaxed and informal way to explore multi-locations within the same country.

Skippered sailing boats; allow you to explore in your own boat, at your own pace, with your own skipper. You can be as involved in the daily sailing as you want and it’s a great way to learn to sail or improve your sailing skills.

Flotilla sailing holidays; are a great experience to share with family and friends, letting you enjoy sailing independently, but with back up close at hand. You’ll sail in small groups (a flotilla) with other like-minded people but with a lead crew vessel on hand to assist with everything, from pointing out local sites of interest and co-ordinating the evening’s social scene, to mechanical support and sailing tuition before you start.

Best for sailing – Star Clipper, eWaterways, Neilson, Sunsail
